About Dr. Burtle

My name is Sally Burtle, and I am one of the physicians in the department of Dermatology. I was born and raised in Long Beach, CA, where, among other things, our summer goals included cooking ourselves on the beach - so I also have my share of sun damage! Upon graduating from the University of California, Santa Cruz, I headed to Philadelphia to attend medical school and residency. After ten years of East Coast living, it was time to come home to California. I decided on the Bay Area because of the excitement of San Francisco and the beauty of the surrounding areas. Where else can you surf, ski, and go wine tasting all in the same weekend?

I chose dermatology as my specialty because it allows me to participate in a variety of both medical and surgical interventions. It also allows me to see a diverse ethnic population, and people of all ages: babies, great-grandparents, and everyone in between. I love my work, and one benefit that I have increasingly enjoyed over my career, is how much of a difference I can make in people’s lives. The skin is a large and important organ system that is not only critical for health, but also for self-esteem. People are very sensitive about issues related to their skin. I believe that by listening and offering empathy, in addition to medical/surgical treatment, I can make a much greater impact on one’s overall well-being.

When I am not at work, I am busy with my husband, three children, and many pets. I am also a private pilot, runner, avid traveller, and eager (if not particularly skilled) chef.
